This type of therapy was developed by an American Psychologist, Roger Callahan, who believed that repairing or rebuilding of disrupted energy paths through stimulation of the meridian points can aid in the betterment of an individual as disrupted energy paths lead to disrupted systems which would then cause negative emotions and physical pain. By rebuilding these energy paths, energy would easily flow and the balance within would be reestablished and healing would be made possible. Thought Field Therapy clients usually undergo several sessions until inner healing is realized.

Though validity was first questioned by the American Psychological Association because of it’s lack of scientific basis, further positive clinical outcomes have proven and supported the efficacy of this type of therapy.

Among the different psychological disorders, TFT is considered to be effective on individuals with depression, anxiety, addictions, phobias and even post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Â There remains considerable debate on Thought Field Therapy and whether or not it is an alternative to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

CTA’s therapists are of the opinion that CBT has the greatest preponderance of evidence regarding efficacy and therefore recommend that clients start with CBT.

To schedule an appointment with one of CTA’s therapists in the NY or CT, please call us at 212-258-2577.

Thought Field Therapy (TFT) deals with the removal of physical and mental problems through physical stimulation of the meridian treatment points of an individual.
